Usage of banana leaf in India is the age old traditions particularly in southern India .These leaves are used for various purposes ,they have various applications it is used for serving foods ,used in roof for houses in many places around the world ,used as traditions in Hindu culture and also in Buddhist traditions so this much of large applications are given by banana leaves.
Generally as mentioned early banana leaves are also used for serving food ,particularly in southern India ,and these banana leaves are also the main food for cattles ,the stray cows etc but with the advancement of every thing ,things are changing rapidly ,the banana leaves that are once used is replaced by plastic plates. And these plates are non bio degradable
Non Bio Degradable what does it mean???
Non biodegradable waste is waste that cannot be broken down naturally either by air, climate, moisture or soil. This kind of waste cannot be naturally dissolved into the land. Some of the most common non biodegradable products are plastic bags and bottles, tin cans and even computer hardware.(source: ask.com)
that means these plates cannot be broken down naturally , what will happen if these are consumed by cow ?? Recently in GOA around fifteen cows had been died due to consumption of non bio degradable waste. When postmortem was conducted on five of the animals at a veterinary dispensary to ascertain the cause of death it was shocking to note that their stomach was filled with plastic and they have died due to consumption of hard waste over a long time(source:Times of India)
Really these incidents are shocking to hear and it is the case which is happening every where in the world ,not with cows but with the other animals too.
So next time before buying plastic plates for your party or any function please think about the animals too..
They are our integral part of our life
so next time while using any plastics just think twice
